Many providers of Web Content Management Systems attempt to imitate the functions of a familiar text processing system, i.e. MS-Word, or confront editors with tangled and complicated forms and functions.

We observed the work of the editorial departments of various internet agencies and carried out a lot of interviews and analysis. We discovered that many mistakes can be traced back to mistaken operation, for example in dealing with images, or because work was being carried out in distinctly user-unfriendly and unfamiliar working environments.

The editorial workflow system we have developed - "Surf and Edit" - functions without resort to abstract forms or cryptic directory structures. All the processes involved in generating content are conducted offline in familiar and comfortable programs such as MS-Word. After final approval, documents are simply loaded into the system. No alterations are made to the text format. In editing mode - complete with password security - which deals mainly with the layout of the internet site, all the elements where alterations may be carried out are marked with an editorial symbol.

Should the editor wish to make an alteration, add or remove something, he navigates to the appropriate part of the page and, after clicking on the chosen element, the editorial interface where the alteration can then be carried out opens in a separate window. All site templates can be used universally. Lists can be accommodated comfortably and sorted in various orders.

The time-setting means the editor can produce material ahead of time and set both the date and time for its eventual appearance on the site. The editor allocates the article - i.e. a news update - a start and an end date. This ensures that the news appears at the appropriate time and that information which has become out of date no longer appears on the site.

This innovative event control is a comfortable function with which editors can organise the appearance of articles or an entire rubrics - defined as groups. Therefore, when a date has to be changed, alterations do not have to extend to every element but rather the entire group can be moved - uncomplicated and fast.

Following each change made, the system generates a new version of the site. If, for example, mistakes are found in a version which has already been given the green light, a previous version of the site can be reactivated and called back into service. All contents are archived automatically.

"Surf and Edit" opens up a wide range of options to you. No matter whether you are part of a flat hierarchy or a complex team structure with its own chief editor and editorial office - we adapt the system to suit the individual requirements, size and specifications of your company.

In "Surf and Edit", we are offering you a complete and ready-to-go Content Management System. What's more, "Surf and Edit" editorial workflow can be adapted to work with other Content Management Systems.
